Best baby video monitor available,
After a lot of research, reading countless reviews and reviewing the picture quality of many video baby monitors on YouTube we finally decided to buy this Motorola Video Baby Monitor which seems to be new to the US market. So far no disappointment at all.
Video Quality
The video quality is excellent. Day- as well as Nightvision delivers a great clear picture without the delays you see in other video baby monitors. There is virtually no interference even with cellphones right next to the monitor and a WiFi in the same room. I definitely recommend to go with the 3.5″ screen to be able to see some details (has the baby the eyes open or closed. Lost pacifier etc.) Especially if you place the camera at a distance where it captures the whole crib. The brightness of the screen can be adjusted and we were very satisfied by the brightness range.
Audio
The sound is very clear and the microphone picks up everything from a whimper to the drop of a pacifier to the floor. You can adjust the volume and it also has a visual indicator of the noise level. The VOX mode allows the monitor to go into sleep mode (saves battery life) and at a preset noise level the monitor screen turns on. This is especially useful during the night if you have placed the monitor next to bed and don’t want to be disturbed by the bright screen. Of course you can also adjust the screen brightness as mentioned above.
Additional Features
This monitor displays the room temperature. First we thought this would be a feature we do not need/use, but it turned out to be very helpful. Now during the hot summer nights we have the air condition running in the baby room and it provides peace of mind if you are able to confirm that the temperature does not drop to far without having to sneak into the baby’s room.
The monitor also plays 5 different lullabies which can be played/stoped remotely. It might be a nice feature for babies that are soothed by music, but we barely use it. Same goes for the night light.
There is also a talk-function that allows you to speak to the baby. It actually works very well and despite what I read in other reviews on Amazon UK the voice is not distorted at all. Maybe you just need to keep a certain distance from the microphone on the monitor unit.
One (probably the only) downside of this monitor is that it does not come with a wall-mount. We went to HomeDepot and bought a simple hook, mounted it to the wall above the crib and put the camera unit on it. Works perfectly fine and cost us less than $5.
On a personal note I want to add that we had long discussions about the necessity of getting a video monitor, but it really helped us and our 8-month old son to establish good sleeping habits (he sleeps through the night now from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM). This video monitor is extremely helpful to decide whether your baby is just making some noise while getting comfortable and ready to sleep or wether the baby really needs some help.(lost pacifier, arm/leg caught in the crib bars) No more unnecessary sneaking into his room and accidentially waking him up or disturbing him while he was falling asleep only because he made some noise while getting comfortable.
And of course it never gets old to just watch him sleep or play by himself in the morning after he woke up.
Overall I give this baby video monitor 5 full stars!

- Clear crisp picture without delay for day- and nightvision
- Excellent sound
- Useful additional features (especially temperature display)
Cons:
- Does not come with a wall-mount.

|It’s OK,
This is the first review I’ve ever given. I read many reviews, but look at them as just opinions. Please just view mine as my one person one sided opinion. This monitor is only ok. I thought it would be great to upgrade to a digital monitor, but it still sometimes has interference which surprises me. Also, when watching my son on the monitor, it’s like he’s in slow motion. Like the picture is not in real time. That’s odd. I don’t think the temperature guage is exactly accurate. Perhaps the heat from the actual camera skews the temperature read out a little. The monitor always reads a couple of degrees hotter than the room actually is. I finally just turned that off, so I wouldn’t pay attention to it. Keep in mind that when you are talking to baby through the monitor, it’s almost as if you’re yelling, so talk softly. It’s very loud! For almost $180 I did expect a bit better quality. I’ll use it, because I own it, but won’t rush out to be the exact same one for replacement if something should happen to this one.
