The truth about Complete Self Defense
Most people when thinking about Self defense think that it is all about knowing special techniques, tricks or carrying special defense weapons like pepper spray, tasers and the like but the truth is that these items and abilities are helpful but are not to be considered as real self defense. Self Defense as professionals understand it starts with awareness.
Awareness is a very important if not the most important part of complete self defense. An unaware person is more likely to be victim of a crime than an aware citizen. Awareness starts with recognition. You must recognize that you and everyone else on this planet are 24 hours a day a possible target for crime in one form or another. Crime does not only presents itself in the form of robbery or armed assault or rape. Crime has as many faces as there are people and only if you recognized for yourself that you are a possible victim you can take the first step to defending yourself in an effective way.
The place you are at the moment also gives more or less possibility for an attack to happen. A dark street obviously is a perfect place to be attacked but you can also be "attacked" by a pick pocket thief when you are in a crowded disco or bus.
In order to save our lives when confronted with a sudden attack or assault we must be able to defend ourselves with the use of self defense techniques and tools but the best defense is to avoid these type of situations and if we take some time to become aware of the problem by analyzing our personal conduct and situation surely we can avoid many attacks without having to use self defense techniques.
The first step of this process is awareness, followed by avoidance. This is the most effective self defense system. Don't fool yourself thinking that you are save and nothing will happen to you. Be prepared, be aware and avoid every place and situation that can turn into an assault on you or your beloved ones
