Look After Your Stun Gun for Efficient Results for Your Personal Protection

Though many people realize the importance of being able to defend them, they don’t always know how to take care of the things that protect them. A car needs to be taken care of and maintained and so does your stun gun. If you don’t take care of your stun gun, then you will find that it won’t perform when you need it most. As a result if you obey these simple steps then you will find that your device will function for a long time.

The first thing you should do is ensure that your stun gun has an adequate amount of power. Make sure that you change the batteries often. If you choose to use rechargeable batteries, then you should charge them as often as you can. A way to find out whether or not your batteries are charged well, is by simply performing a test. Simply give the device a quick zap in the air. If you find that an arc is established, then this will be a good indicator that your batteries are charged plenty. If there isn’t an arc, then you need to replace them or charge them.

Which brings us to our next necessary tip for proper care. Even though a rapid, split second test is okay, make sure that you don’t let you stun gun continue to discharge without connecting to a target. A continuous, “dry” discharge could damage the electrodes on the device. As a result if you damage your device because of this, then you wil not be able to fire the electrical charge to the target.

The suitable place to hold the self defense weapon is in a holster that is attached to your waist. It can also be carried either in a purse or in a pocket, but if left loose on your person it may end up damaged. Carrying it in a holster won’t just help keep it in working order it will help you get to it quicker when you need it.

When storing the stun gun, you should keep it in a place where children won’t get to it. This performs a two-fold purpose. Firstly, it helps to protect children from harming themselves or others with it. Secondly, it helps to protect the weapon itself. Children like to play with toys and often cause damage to them. Therefore that it is necessary that you keep your weapon safe, making sure that you take care of it, and you will find that it will take care of you by keeping you safe from harm.

A look at Combination Locks

Combination locks use a combination of numbers and symbols in order to gain access to them. They do not use a key like other types of locks. An arrangement of numbers or symbols are entered into the locking mechanism through the use of a single rotating dial or several rotating discs. These discs or dials will act on the internal mechanism of the lock. As soon as the correct sequence is entered, the lock will open.

There are several types of combination locks available today. These are:

Multiple-dial locks

The multiple-dial lock is considered one of the least secure locks available in the market. They are usually used in low-security situations, for example to lock a bike. They are put together using several rotating discs with notches cut unto them. A pin with several teeth is inserted into the lock to secure it. After the right sequence is entered into the lock and the notches and teeth align, it will open.

Opening a multiple-dial lock with no combination is very easy. One trick is to pull the pin while rotating the discs on the lock. Continue rotating each individual disc until a small click is heard. This click signifies that a match between the teeth and the notch has been attained. Continue the same process on all the other discs until the lock is open. This is a very easy process, requiring only a bit of patience.

Single-dial locks

Single-dial locks are much safer than the Multiple-dial locks. Due to their safety, you will find these locks on most safes or padlocks. Their mechanism consists of a rotating dial. To open them, you dial the first number clockwise, the second number counterclockwise, and so on. Once all the numbers have been dialed in and the notches align, the lock will open.

Even with the increased safety of Single-dial locks, early production padlocks were easy to open. For example, in the early days you could get a padlock opened by turning the dial while pulling on the shackle until the dial stopped. By doing this, you could guess the combination easily and with very little effort.

Electronic locks

The new electronic combination locks make use of electronic circuits to secure the lock . These electronic marvels expect you to enter a sequence of numbers on a keypad. If the combination of number is the correct one, the lock opens.

A benefit of these locks is that a key is no longer required. You only need to remember a numeric combination. The one drawback is that if you lose or forget the combination, a new one must be re-programmed into the lock.

Burglar proof your home with outdoor home security

Once you have installed your indoor home security system, it’s important that you complement your system with outdoor security to improve the safety of yourself and your family. There are many different ways to secure your property on the outside, no matter the size of your home or your budget.

Outdoor lighting is one of the first options you should consider and is an excellent deterrent for home invasions.  Outdoor security lighting makes a burglar feel vulnerable and exposed which is why intruders will look for homes with little or no outdoor lighting. One of the most popular options is all-night lighting which gives continual lighting for your property. Motion sensor lighting is another option in which lights are activated when a motion detector senses movement.  This is also a popular option because not only does it scare intruders, but it also saves on electricity. Some people prefer to use a high/low combination lighting which is on low power at nightime and gets brighter and brighter if the motion sensor detects movement.  Whatever type of lighting you choose to use, it’s important that you focus on strategic areas such as the backyard and doorways, keeping glare and shadows down to a minimum.

Outdoor cameras have also become a popular home security option in recent years.  The best type of cameras will be wireless, function well in low light conditions and are weatherproof.  The type of camera you purchase will mainly depend on lighting conditions, environmental conditions and features required.

Cameras that produce a black and white picture do better than color output in low light conditions but color output is very efficient for recording details. If you need video in color and yet have very little lighting around your home, you may want to invest in an infared camera. These types of cameras can record activity in total darkness.

You also need to regard environmental conditions when buying your home security camera. Outdoor security cameras require special housing depending on where you decide to install your camera.  If your camera will be fully exposed to all elements, you will need housing that is waterproof, weatherproof and weather resistant.  It’s important that you invest in durable outdoor housing so that your camera is not damaged and rendered useless.

To get the most out of your home security camera, you might want to invest in quality features that will give you the best picture possible.  If you want to monitor a huge area, you will want to purchase a camera that has a wide-angle lens; whereas a long range lens is the most effective for catching small details. Superior security cameras will have shutter speeds that adjust and automatically adapt to varying lighting conditions.  Finding a camera that meets your needs is the only way you can be assured of adequate protection to keep your home and your family safe at night.

Landscaping also plays an important role in outdoor home security. Making sure that large bushes and trees are trimmed regularly is necessary so that burglars don’t have a place to hide. Placing a bush with thorns under a window and in other exposed areas can also deter burglars from entering.  Installing landscaping lights along walkways can also be an effective way to stop home invasions.

Other things you can do to scare away possible intruders is to stick your security provider’s logo stickers in your window or place their sign in a noticeable area in front of your door. You can also install a motion detector alarm on your driveway or a fake security camera to convince burglars that you have outdoor monitoring.   Always walk around your property periodically, so you can be aware of any vulnerable spots on your property. Having strong outdoor home security coupled with an indoor alarm system not only gives peace of mind, but is the best defense against home burglaries.

How to pick a lock?

Have you ever experienced locking yourself out of your car or home?. Wouldn’t you want to be able to pick the lock to get your keys back? When we hear the phrase “lock picking”, we think crime, burglars, or illegal activity. But this is not always the case. Of course, you could break the window of your home to get back in, but you are better off calling a professional locksmith to open your doors so that you can get back in with minimal effort and aggravation.

Just like anything else in life, the right tools make a big difference. The basic lock picking kit contains a lock pin and a tension wrench. Of course, in an emergency, you can replace the lock pin with a hair pin. The Professional lock picking kits include a wide variety of tension wrenches for many different lock pins. Some of them will even include a lock picking gun which vibrates in order to push the pins inside the lock at the same time in order to open it.

The first thing you need to do when picking a lock is to insert the tension wrench that came with the kit into the keyhole of the lock you want to open. After the wrench is in all the way in, try to turn the cylinder. Next, use the appropriate lock pin to help pry up the pins in the lock. As soon as the pins reach their normal “open” position, you will hear a “click” sound. The click sound tells you that the lock has been opened.

Racking is another popular technique used to pick locks. Racking uses a special pick tool known as the rake. To use the rake, introduce it into the lock to be opened. Push the rake all the way in, then pull the rake out quickly, making sure it hits all the pins in the lock as it is pulled out. Done properly, this will set the lock to the “open” position.

Out of all the locks available in the market today, Master makes some of the hardest ones to pick. They offer one of the toughest systems against lock picking. Introduced in 1921 by Henry Soref, Master locks are built using laminated layers of solid steel. Even though the technology used by Master is very similar to all other locks in the market, it usually takes a skilled and patient locksmith to open one of their locks.

To learn more about this fascinating topic of lock picking, there are all sorts of information available online, in videos and books. You can find information as close as your local library. A lot of the books available will also contain a video CD with step by step instruction on how to pick a lock. Also, if you want to become a professional locksmith, there are courses available in your local universities and community colleges.

All locks are susceptible to lock picking. Some are tougher than others. This is why you want to make sure you pick the right lock for the right job.

If you live in South Florida, make sure you consult with a professional locksmith in Fort Lauderdale in order to pick the best lock to keep your valuables safe. Check our website at Locksmith of Fort Lauderdale.

The Effectiveness of Pepper Spray for Keeping Yourself Safe

We live in a world that is filled with looming threats against us. You will see horror stories on the news of people injuring other people. Self defense is very important and if you don’t take action today, then you may find yourself in quite the predicament tomorrow. Self defense can be very effective when you deploy pepper spray.

If you came upon a mugger demanding money from you, what would you do? Would you have any means to defend yourself? Would you know how to use whatever self defense weapon you may carry? If you had a gun, would be able to live with the responsibility and burden of possibly killing another human being?

With pepper spray, you don’t have to worry about taking the life of another human being. At the same time though, you will have an adequate and effective means for warding off attackers and making your escape. Pepper spray is easy to use and it is very easy to afford.

If you have purchased some pepper spray for personal self defense, then you should know some basic tips in order to make this self defense weapon more effective. Firstly, you should carry it with you at all times in a readily accessible place. Some of the more preferred places are in your purse or in a holster on your belt.

When it comes time to use the pepper spray, it is best to spray it in the attacker’s face. This will cause the capillaries in their eyes to swell, rendering them temporarily blind. Their eyes will water and their nose will run profusely. They will have difficulty breathing and wherever the pepper spray touches their skin, they will feel an intense burning sensation.

Life is precious and it is a shame that there are people out there who seek to harm others. You don’t have to be one of their victims though. Take action today and prepare yourself for the worst. It is better to have pepper spray and not need it than to need to defend yourself and not have the means to do so.

A simple way to deter burglaries: Lock your doors!

There was a time when you could be safe in your home even with your doors and windows unlocked. Unfortunately, these days it is a necessity to keep all your doors and windows under lock for security.

According to the National Crime Prevention Council most homes do not have the correct lock security on them. Close to half of the homes in the United States have deadbolts on all doors, and nearly a fifth don’t have any deadbolts at all.

It is recommended that you revise the locks on all doors and windows in your house in order to keep your family and belongings safe and secure. Make sure you choosehigh quality locks that will not be vulnerable to lock picking, drilling and popping. Make sure to check with your local residential locksmith in Fort Lauderdale for more details.

The following tips from the National Crime Prevention Council can help you secure your home:

  • Lock all your doors and windows. This will make certain your loved ones and belongings are safe and secure.
  • Keep all bushes under the windows trimmed. This will prevent thieves from using them as hiding places.
  • Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Check to see if there is a neighborhood watch you can join. Neighbors are a great asset in crime prevention.
  • If you need to leave a spare key, make certain that it is in the hands of a trusted neighbor or family member. Don’t try to hide a key around the house, burglars know all the hiding spaces.
  • Make certain that all doors and windows are properly lighted. Good lighting will keep the burglars away.
  • If you go on vacation, make sure to stop all mailings and paper deliveries. A pile of newspapers and mail in the front door is a clear sign that the house is empty.

Home Security – Increasing Security in Your Home

Moving to a new home is an important event in the life of any individual, couple, or family. It not only signifies a change in geographical location, but beyond this, it represents the start of a new life chapter. Moving is not just about changing houses, it is more importantly about making a new home. The new house will soon be more than the physical amenities for which it was purchased; it will be a collection of memories of birthday parties, family dinners, holidays, first days of school, and graduations. Moving one’s family is thus about much more than a change in physical location; it represents the beginning of a new era of memories.

The best way to prevent burglars is to think from their point of view. Consider the pros and cons of breaking into the house. Think of ways to break into your own house. This way you will be able to zero in on the weak points of the house. You can easily leave behind some item which can be used by the burglars for their advantage. For example, a ladder left behind carelessly by the garage could give outsiders easy access to the 1st or 2nd floor windows. So, at first chalk out the possible flaws in the general security system and take the necessary preventive measures.

All parents hope that the home into which they are moving will provide an enjoyable, warm, and safe atmosphere for their families to play, learn, and grow. Thus although it may be difficult to find time to plan all of the details of the new home while in the process of moving out of the old, all parents hope to have the new home ready in time for the big day. Luckily for parents today, there are a few simple rules that can be utilized to help ensure that moving into your new home will be as stress-free as possible. The first main task that parents should check off their list before moving into the new home, is to make sure that all of the proper safety inspections have been completed and are up-to-date. Next it is important to make sure that all of the smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide detectors have been changed. For the sake of convenience, any small, cosmetic repairs to wall damage should also be done before moving all of the furniture into the home. Additionally, if necessary, all of the kitchen and bathroom appliances should be updated before moving in.

Floodlights, motion detecting lights and floodlights are also very effective in this cause, as they will be triggered by the slightest motion and scare away the burglars. Always remember to position these lights high above and out of reach of normal people, so that they cannot be easily broken or tampered with by the burglars. Many homes in cities like Torrey Hills, Torrey Pines, Vista have implemented these features are hugely benefiting from them

Most home security systems include a home alarm system, and an increasing number are beginning to also include video surveillance devices. Through a quick, easy consultation with a safety expert, you can determine exactly what your family will need in order to be secure. The installation of a modern home security system can then take as little as a single afternoon. As a result, you and your family can move into your new dream home with the peace of mind of knowing that you are completely protected

Choosing Wireless or Hard Wired Home Security Products

One very important decision that homeowners have to make regarding home security products is whether they opt for wireless or hardwired home security products. Obviously both wireless and hard wired home security products have their advantages and disadvantages. The decision to choose one type of home security products over the other is largely a matter of personal preference besides interior design.  This article will outline the advantage and disadvantage of these home security products and allow the reader to draw their own conclusion in your home improvement.

Wireless home security products certainly have their own advantages and disadvantages. For many the major advantage of wireless home security products is that the systems are easy and inexpensive to install. Home security products that do not require wires are so simple to install because you do not have to worry about installing complicated wiring into the walls. Another advantage of wireless home security products is that they can be easily moved from one location to another in the home. They can even be taken with you if you move to a new location. Finally another advantage is that wireless home products can be installed in locations where there is no access to a power supply because they have their own internal battery. Wireless home security products do have their disadvantages as well. One of these disadvantages is that wireless products often have design limitations that prevent these products from being placed too far from the central control panel. Another disadvantage is that wireless products require frequent battery changes.

Hard wire home security products are preferred by some but they do have both advantages and disadvantages. One of the most significant advantages of hard wire home security products is the reliability of the systems. Many consider hard wire home security products to more reliable than their wireless counterparts. Another advantage to hard wire products is they are usually installed by professional contractors and the work and parts come with a warranty. The cost of hard wire home security products is a definite disadvantage. These products are usually more expensive than wireless versions. Another disadvantage is that moving the parts is usually difficult and often impossible. The components of a hard wire security system are usually leased from the company who installs them and are not owned outright by the homeowner.

Home safety Tips

Home Security Systems provide a heightened sense of well-being by alerting you to an intrusion attempt; however, many available units can also provide a security call to local constabularies. A good system should be mounted on an inside wall away from direct sight from either the front or back door. A two panel system is an even more effective system due to the fact that, should one system be rendered ineffective, the second panel can still alert officials. Wireless alarm systems can remain effectual when wired systems may be compromised by very skilled burglars.

Close Circuit Television (CCTV) can also provide a means of identifying those who may be lurking on your property. These easily hidden devises can also allow you to easily identify welcome visitors.

Security lighting is a key element in the safety of your property and can make it easy to see when you arrive home after dark. Interior lighting that is subject to a timer may confuse burglars as to whether there are family members inside. Outdoor lighting that uses motion sensing technology makes it difficult for robbers to gain undetected access to any vulnerable areas of your home.

The two primary doors burglars will attempt to gain access through are the garage and back doors. They usually are the easiest to compromise and they provide the greatest concealment. Glass paneled doors are a means of easy entrance into any home so consider replacing them with solid core doors when possible. Replace old locks with high quality mechanisms capable of resisting lock-picking attempts as well as prying and twisting. We also recommend the use of quality deadbolts. The use of a peephole is also advised when CCTV technology is not in use or in tandem when possible. If your home has sliding glass doors you can simply place a wooden dowel or similar commercial grade products like the charley-bar in the track to make it difficult for the door to slide should the latch be compromised.

With all the emphasis on doors we would be remiss if we failed to mention a burglar's favourite means of accessing your home. It is far more likely that a window will be left either open or unlocked than a door. Because windows generally use latch technology, a secondary blocking device should be considered. Should you require nighttime ventilation be sure to block your windows so that they will not open more than a few millimeters.

Monitored Home Security System

Generally, supervised security systems are an alarm system that will react to the alarm being triggered off by giving a signal to an emergency service which will manage the situation quickly and swiftly. By putting up monitored home security system you can be sure that you will get help at once if anything unforeseen occurs to your property.

Even so, there are two possible ways of being connected to the supervising center, either by a ordinary landline or by mobile phone. The basic advantage of supervising by mobile phone is that the burglar cannot destruct your phone line outside like he can do with a land line. A lot of people put their cell phone unit for transmition in the roof of their home in order to have a great signal. It means that you can connect at the time when you need most.

The majority of monitoring companies will attempt to ring your phone back after they have obtained the signal that your monitoring system has been activated. The emergency is enhanced if there is no one in the house or if someone picks the phone up at home, but can’t provide the right password.

The monitoring center is not only alerted if the alarm was set off.
Besides, there are alarm control panels that have additional buttons for other emergency services like fire, medical, or police. You only have to press the button and the center will act in response to help you with your demand. It is great, specially for the elderly or infirm as it ensures calm and peace of mind.

Once you decide to install a monitored home security system, you will have to give a small amount of money a month; nevertheless, it is actually worth that money for the peace of mind. Actually, a monitored home security alarm system may reduce your home insurance payment so this offsets some of the monitored premium per month making it not as pricey as first expected. Thus, you should really consider calling your insurance company as soon as possible, and discover their terms of installing a home monitored alarm system.
